Parents

Parent Participation

The Seed encourages parents to take an active part in their child’s school experience in order to make it a true community for learning. They are encouraged to share their many talents and are valued as a rich source of information.

Parents contribute by teaching special classes, such as Art Masterpiece, helping with the monthly snack program participating in the classroom, donating materials or resources, driving on field trips, and serving on the Board of Directors. The Awakening Seed Parents’ Association sponsors the annual Halloween Carnival each year, in addition to other fundraising activities and parent support services.

Awakening Seed Parents Association (APA)

The APA is the Seed’s parent organization, which functions similar to Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in other learning institutions. The function of the APA is two-fold:

  • Fundraising: Money goes to the Scholarship Fund, supplies and equipment for the school and bonuses for the teachers and staff.
  • Service and support: Parents coordinate special events and offerings such as volunteering to be a Room Representative, Halloween Carnival, Scholastic Book Fair, spring picnic, yearbook, T-shirt sales, and much more.

School Tax Credit Options

Anyone who files Arizona taxes can redirect the tax dollars they are already paying by making a contribution to IBE or Schools with Heart.  There is no cost to donors.  Your contribution will reduce the amount of tax owed when filing or increase the amount of the taxpayer’s refund, dollar-for-dollar.  You can contribute through IBE or Schools With Heart:

Institute for Better Education (IBE)

  • donors can recommend funds go to Awakening Seed
  • family and friends can recommend funds go to a specific child
  • IBE accepts credit cards, checks, and online payments
  • IBE can accept corporate matches for employee donations

*The state will honor your contribution as a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for 2017, through April 15, 2018.  To claim your donation as a federal charitable deduction in 2017, make your contribution by 12/31/17.

Call Awakening Seed School 602-454-2606 with questions.

Your tax credit helps students attend Awakening Seed School regardless of financial means.

How It Works
If you have an Arizona tax liability, your donation can be taken as a tax credit.  For example, if you have a $3,500 tax liability for the year and you donate $2,000, your tax liability would be $1,500.  If you will be getting a refund, you would get an additional $2,000 refund.

What types of donations are allowed?
There are two tax credits applicable to the Seed, the “original” tax credit and “switcher” tax credit.  Both tax credits benefit our school but must be used in different ways.  Once the maximum is met for the original tax credit, the remaining donation is applied to the switcher tax credit.  The amounts allowed differ depending on filing status.

Donation Limits
Original Tax Credit Contribution – $1,092 married/$546 single
PLUS (Private Learning Uplifting Students) Tax Credit Contribution – (must contribute max original before PLUS credit is taken) $1,085 married/$543 single
Total Combined Tax Credit Contribution – $2,177 married/$1,089 single
