Meet the alumni of awakening seed school
Valerie (Thayer) Devoy
Age 37 | San Francisco, CA
I live in San Francisco with my husband, John, and my daughter, Eliana. I run a small business from home where I provide creative and financial services for the owners of small businesses such as restaurants, salons, hotels and boutiques. The work I do includes web design, writing, bookkeeping and coaching management teams. I love what I do and mostly the people I work for, who are longtime friends and colleagues. I find my biggest assets have been being reliable, hard working and nice. I graduated with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Communication Design from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. Since then I have lived many places, including Seattle, Paris and New York. I have worked hard and have been fortunate to follow my dreams. I believe life is an adventure and I’m happiest when I’m on the brink of discovering something new. I was fortunate enough to have been a part of one of Awakening Seed’s earliest classes. I started when I was three years old and continued through 3rd grade, a total of six years. It was during these years at Awakening Seed that my creativity and bravery were fostered and encouraged. I learned how to write using my unique voice, directed plays, and illustrated books. I researched complicated science questions and demonstrated them in shoebox dioramas. I learned how to be a part of the group and, most importantly, that what I did mattered to the world that I was becoming a part of.
