Campaign for a Climber

First of all, thanks to all of you who purchased bricks to support the playground project.  We look forward to adding them to the current collection near the ramp to the playground.  Now, as we slide into December, we will begin our capital campaign for the remainder of funds needed for our playground structure.

Since the Seed’s humble beginnings in 1977, providing enriching experiences with the outdoor environment has been a high priority.  It’s where children learn about growing things, get their hands and feet in the mud and sand, and let their imaginations run wild while their bodies do the same.  A  consistent component of our playground has been a climbing structure.  Our early ones were constructed of wooden poles with recycled tires attached.  Over time, we built others that were more inviting for imaginative play, and included a wider variety of components (see photo of the 1990’s version).  It was quite exciting when we moved to our current location and were able to have a new structure, made of recycled plastic planks, to have not one, but two slides.  It served two decades of students and has gotten us to where we are today.  We’re ready for an upgrade.

We are working with a company called Exerplay that has designed a high quality climbing structure and upgraded safety surface.  The proposed structure will include two slides, monkey bars, a musical component, a small climbing wall, steps and various heights of platforms, and protective railings for climbers.  Additionally, we needed to replace the safety surface on our toddler playground.

Our goal during the month of December is to raise a total of $93,000 to cover the cost of both projects.  So far we’ve raised around $10,000.  As you consider your end-of-the-year giving, please keep the Seed in mind.  Tell your friends, grandparents, and anyone who might resonate with the Seed’s mission.  Please consider making a donation to the Seed playground fund by December 31, 2022.  To make a donation go to this link.  Your contribution to this project is tax deductible, since the Seed is a 502(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.   If you have questions, reach out to Mary at mary@awakeningseedschool.org.  Thanks for your continuing support of Awakening Seed School.  Your generosity for this project will be of benefit to the generations of children who find their way to the Seed in years to come.
