On Wednesday we’ll gather as a community to celebrate the Seed and everything about it for which we are grateful. It’s an event that has been part of the Seed history for a long time. In past years we used to spend days preparing a feast for our families to enjoy. Classes would make green beans, mac and cheese, cookies, mashed potatoes, fruit salad, and other delicious dishes. It was a lot of work, although we always felt it was worth the effort.
Once the pandemic hit, we had to eliminate the event all together, and when we brought it back we decided to have everyone bring their own food. The ease of this shift was deeply appreciated by the staff, so we’ve kept the practice of everyone bringing their own food. It’s made the day considerably more relaxing all the way around.
The gathering also attracts a growing group of Seed alums, which is always a joy to witness. Some are older siblings of current students, or friends of older siblings who love to drop by the Seed for a few moments. We appreciate their loyalty and love to see how they are growing up.
Mostly it will be a time of offering gratitude for all that we have at the Seed. Personally, I’m grateful to be able to work in a place where everyone involved has the same intention, to create a space where children can be engaged in learning experiences that are inspiring, while feeling safe and confident to be themselves. I’m also thankful for the beautiful outdoor space we have to be in touch with the natural world right in the midst of a sprawling urban environment. I’m grateful for the support from families to do this work, and the trust in us. There are lots of reasons to feel discouraged during these times, and I’m choosing to look for the good. I hope that goodness will prevail in each of your lives in the coming days, and I look forward to seeing all of you at our gathering tomorrow at 11.
