Shade, Finally!

In December 2025, we launched our Cool the School campaign to raise funds for our new shade structures.  It took us awhile to reach our goal, but with the generous participation of numerous donors, we eventually met our $80,000 goal.  The demolition of the previous shade system followed in March, to make way for installation of the support structures.  In late April, Phoenix Tent and Awning delivered the first phase of the installation, a small umbrella-like structure that offers shade to the swings.  In fact, this smaller structure was actually a donation by the company.  I’m not certain why they decided to gift it to us, but perhaps it had something to do with Bill Glover’s long standing relationship with them over many years.  The sails of the previous shade system, designed by Bill, were manufactured by Phoenix Tent and Awning.  We were hopeful we’d have the project completed by the end of the school year, but it didn’t quite happen by then.

All the action took place during the week between the regular school year and our first day of summer camp.  Finally, our new shade structures are in place, providing exceptional protection from the sun.  This will not only keep children and teachers protected from the sun while outside, it will also enhance classroom cooling, since the bright sun won’t be coming in the windows directly.  It’s a win all the way around.

We want to thank our community for the various forms of support we’ve received that ultimately led to this project coming to fruition.  As we move through the warm summer months with our beautiful new shade structures in place, our gratitude for our community is immense.  Thank you, thank you, for enabling us to keep our school cool.
